3 Ways Your Builder Should Communicate During a Build

Communication and collaboration between all parties – architect, builder, interior designer and client – is crucial to the success of any building project. This ensures complete satisfaction with the final outcome, and a smooth and enjoyable process for all along the way.

Communication breakdowns can cause budget blowout, time delays and unnecessary stress. You should never feel disconnected or unable to raise issues or questions with your builder. Your working relationship should be symbiotic, with complete transparency and trust from both sides because after all, creating your dream home should be an enjoyable experience from start to finish – right up to the moment you get the keys in your hand.

Here are 3 ways you can expect a quality builder to communicate with you during the process.

1. Phone calls and emails

Sometimes a good old-fashioned phone call or email is the quickest way to ask a question or resolve an issue.

You should always feel welcome to pick up the phone to your builder to discuss the project or any concerns you may have, and vice versa. Sometimes, a conversation to hash out the options and weigh up the best outcome is faster than going back-and-forth over email.

On the flip side, a bonus of using digital communication to communicate means every stakeholder throughout the process will be across any subsequent changes. This method is also ideal for sharing documentation and any variations to the original plans, which can be referred back to at any time.

2. On-site meetings

There’s nothing more exciting than seeing your project come to life off the plan, so where better to check on its progress than on site? During your build, you should have regular catch-ups on the site itself, where your builder can do a walkthrough and talk you through the stage it’s at and any potential issues that may have arisen.

This is a fast and effective way to collaborate and troubleshoot. If you’re not able to make it in person, a video call might be an option, too – just ask your builder if this is a service they are able to offer.

3. Through technology

In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, builders have been forced to move more of their services online. This shift is great for clients as it means builders are more open to things like regular Zoom or video meetings. A quick video call to see and talk to your builder can make a huge difference when it comes to peace of mind about your build.

A high-quality builder will also have an active social media presence so you can check out what’s happening at your site (and others around town) through Facebook and Instagram posts, videos and stories.
